Day 4: GAETI-Red Hills Mine, Porosity and Permeability
Today has been an exciting day! The field trip to Red Hills Mine in Ackerman, MS was amazing!!!! There was so much to visualize. It was such an adventure. The development of the coal mine is a process that consists of a lot of labor at different levels. I never envisioned the amount of labor and phases it took to develop a coal mine. I was intrigued by the development of the land and the enormous vehicles used to carry out daily functions and processes for coal development. The porosity and permeability activity was great. I can use this activity with my students to analyze how different soil, sand & rock types absorb water and also help with measurement skills.
